So as I would imagine, if you ended up here then you've probably thought more than once during your life "Hey, wouldn't it be cool if I could make my own game?". You most likely have a great idea, you think everyone would like it and they'd all want to play your game or maybe you just have a small project in mind that you'd want to do for yourself, perhaps share it with your friends. Sounds familiar so far?
"But I can't do that, it's too hard!"
Wrong. If you just put your mind to it, with a little bit of practice and learning, even you can do it. Yes, you can create your own game. It's not hard, it's not impossible. It just takes time and motivation. I'll be honest with you and tell you that no, you won't be able to create your dream game right off the bat. But you -can- get there. All you have to do is start learning every little bit, step by step, and if you just keep at it, you -will- eventually get to that point where you have the freedom to express your ideas.
"Ok, that sounds great, let's do this! But...where do I start?"
This is where I come in. Through these articles I will be attempting to teach you everything you need to know to get started in game making. We'll start right from the very basics and gradually move on to more advanced topics. We'll start at the bottom and get you all the way to the top.
This is gonna cost me money, isn't it?"
Nope. This is a learning process and I want to make your learning experience as enjoyable and as fruitful as possible, therefore every software that I will recommend you to use will be completely free of any charge, so nothing can stand in your way! For the purpose of this article journey we will be mainly working with the free version of the Game Maker: Studio along with some optional side-programs that you may want to use to create your own content for your games. Again, I will always point you towards at least decent and free software as well as free resources to use in your games.
"Cool! I'm all ready and fired up, let's go!"
We're almost there! Starting with my next article, we'll be getting started with Game Maker: Studio. I'll show you how and where to get it from and I'll get you acquainted with its basics. See you there!
